Name Consulting for Surnames and Others
Surnames (Family Names)
Surnames, also known as family names or "last names", have become just as important in projecting your personality these days. It is no longer so simple as taking your family's given last name or your husband's last name when marrying. It is also becoming more common to have a family with different last names for each of its members, as blended families become the norm, and hyphenated names are no longer considered unusual. Sometimes a family will consider a "new" last name, one meant to include all members of the family rather than each person having different last names. In other instances, a new bride or groom, or both together, will decide on a new last name because of reasons such as they are creating their own whole new family, or because of hard-to-spell or clumsy last names. Occassionally, a parent will give their child an entirely different last name than either parent for some of these same reasons.
"Toy" Names
The word "toys", in this instance, refers to large, expensive items that are often the result of hard work or a lifelong dream, and the owner wants to name it something special. Toys that are named include boats, cars, motorcycles, or even vacation homes. The names are often a reference to something in the owners life that they want projected for all to see, and may contain standard names or phrases. There's usually a clever grammatical twist or play on words. This can also apply to farms or homesteads.
Pet Names
For many people, a pet is their "baby", their companion and their friend. That pet is with them just as a family member would be. Because of this, naming a pet is no longer limited to the standard pet names. There are many of the same things to consider, especially if a pet comes from a long bloodline or has a family name. Show pets and purebreds sometimes have special naming considerations as well.
